For the 3rd year the area along Charoen Krung Road and the Creative District will be brought alive at night by the annual “Awakening Bangkok” Festival of Light. In 2020 the illumination festival will take place on December 11-20.

Awakening Bangkok 2020 is now over and we look forward to Awakening Bangkok 2021!

Introducing Awakening Bangkok 2020

Awakening Bangkok is an annual festival of light organised by Time Out Bangkok. This year it will take place on December 11-20, 2020.

Given that Awakening takes please in the “Creative District” area along Charoen Krung Road it is more than just fancy lights but an exhibition of creative expression through illuminated artworks. It comprises of a series of illuminated art installations which range from simplistic to high tech and from obvious to thought provoking.

In fact it maybe better to consider it simply a night time audio-visual art exhibition where artist create artworks using lights, projectors, sound and even smoke machines!

This years theme is “RE/WIND/FAST/FORWARD” and comprises of 25 creative geniuses who have created 37 installations to reflect on and illuminate on the current crisis of COVID, so that we can look back on what we have gone through and contemplate on how to move forward into a bright future.

Each night during the festival the illuminations are on between 6pm and 11pm.

Given the number of great places to eat in the area it would be easy to spend the whole evening eating and exploring!

Experience Awakening With Expique in 2020

It is approximately 3km if you were to walk to see all installations. While it is easy to explore Awakening Bangkok on foot by yourself we have some fun alternative ways to explore. These will include

Scoot Awakening Bangkok

Join us every evening for a eScooter tour exploring the festival. This is possibly the most fun way to explore and one of our guides will also introduce you to more about the area.

We have join in groups available on Dec 12, 13, 18, 19, 20 at 6pm – 800THB per person.

On all nights you can also book a private tour. 2,000THB for 2 people or 800THB per person if 3 or more people.

Ride Awakening Bangkok

If you don’t want to walk then why not rent an illuminated tuk tuk to explore. We will be illuminating some of our tuk tuks with funky lights for the occasion.
