There is nothing better than a piping hot fresh cup of coffee. In recent years, coffee culture has exploded on Phuket. The island has seen an influx of small, independent roasters opening hip coffee shops, slow bars and craft coffee bars brewing and serving an array of speciality coffees.
Coffee connoisseurs at heart, the skilled roasters in Phuket excel at their craft. While the climate of Phuket makes it exceptionally difficult to grow coffee beans, the owners of these coffee shops have come together to source quality beans from northern Thailand as well as countries further afoot including Africa and Brazil.
The end result are deliciously caffeinated concoctions of specialty coffees using Thai beans and curated roasted blends from international coffee beans.
Chances are that the first sip of robust coffee from any of these roasters will keep you coming back for more.
Located in the heart of Phuket Old Town, Campus Coffee Roaster is a small batch roaster, espresso & slow bar. Trendy and tranquil, the coffee bar is a great place to stop in for a drink and a snack when wandering the old town.
Campus Coffee Roaster was originally established to showcase their single-origin coffee roasting with beans from Thailand’s north. These days, the shop roasts speciality beans from countries such as Africa and South America as well.
Khun Golf, the owner of Campus Coffee Roaster, started dabbling in roasting coffee while in university. Through trial and error, he perfected the craft and today is at the helm of one of the most popular coffee shops and roasters in Phuket. Also important to note that Campus Coffee Roaster was the 4th runner-up of International Coffee Roast Master Thailand in 2019.

Founded in 1958 by Cheng Long, a Chinese immigrant to the island, Hock Hoe Lee is the original Phuket coffee roaster. Cheng Long first started selling fresh roasted coffee to workers of the tin mining industry, but word of his magic coffee bean soon spread, and the coffee soon became a favorite amongst Phuketians.
Fast forward more than 40 years, and the third generation of Cheng Long’s family has turned Hock Hoe Lee into a successful business and coffee roasting powerhouse. The modern day coffee business roasts a large variety of premium coffee beans and supplies coffee to many of the big hotel chains in Phuket.
Hock Hoe Lee coffee shop on Viset Road in Rawai also offers up teas, fresh juices and a variety of healthy bites from a small food menu. It is possible to buy their whole bean and ground coffee varieties to brew in the comfort of your own home.

A hip espresso and brew bar in Phuket Town, Asterisk Espresso is owned by Khun Future, a fourth-generation coffee roaster. Prior to opening his coffee bar, Khun Future held cupping events around southern Thailand under the brand name Osmosis Coffee. His aim was to was to educate people on speciality coffee.
Khun Future is one of the most adept small roasters in Phuket. He keeps up-to-date with all of the latest coffee innovations and has a large variety of coffee gadgets at Asterisk Espresso. While the shop itself is rather small and minimalist, it remains a favorite amongst expats for its robust coffee varieties, and has a reputation as being the darling of the Thai roasting scene as well.

Situated in a beautifully restored Sino-Portuguese building on Soi Rommani, RUSH Coffee has been in the coffee roasting business since 2016. The espresso and slow bar roasts and sells coffee beans, and sells a variety of freshly baked sweets and pastries in its shop.
The owner of RUSH Coffee, Khun Tong, has dedicated relationships with farmers in northern Thailand, and constantly strives to perfect his roasting and blending style with their coffee beans. RUSH Coffee specializes in Thai Arabica coffee and roasts exclusively for their coffee bar in Phuket Old Town.

The Shelter Coffee is a true gem. Located in Phuket Old Town on Dibuk Road, the coffee shop brews speciality coffee. The shop’s award-winning baristas are exceptionally skilled and excel at creating delicious coffee drinks using innovative methods.
The Shelter Coffee brews many of their speciality coffees with an AeroPress, a tedious process in which air pressure is used during the brewing. The end result is some of Phuket’s finest coffees. Highly recommend is their 72-hour cold brew. Khun Co, the owner of The Shelter Coffee, was the winner of the Thailand AeroPress Championship in 2016. The Shelter Coffee has a small garden out back and serves a variety of pastries and simple Thai food.
