There is always something to do in Bangkok – hunt down the latest goings-on with our what’s-on guide. Know of another event taking place that you want to share? Let us know in the comments!

Build Your Own Bangkok – 12 March-11 April

The latest of the rotating art exhibitions at WTF, one of our favourite quirky Bangkok bars, is a collection of drawings on a large scale that guide you through everything that is weird and wonderful about Bangkok. From sweaty backpackers to tourists visiting in search of, erm, that something special – and the infrastructure and communities that run in the background to them all. The exhibition runs from 12 March until 11 April, and admission to the bar is free. WTF is closed on Mondays (nearest Skytrain station is Thong Lor). www.wtfbangkok.com

The Great Outdoor Market – 13-15 March

Bangkok loves a good market, and it went crazy last year for the Bangkok Docklands riverside setup. Now it returns as The Great Outdoor Market from 4pm on 13-15 March, at the Capanaya Riverfront – a little tricky to reach, but do-able either by taxi or by BRT bus from Chong Nonsi Skytrain station. The market will feature plenty to eat and drink – there’s even a floating bar – along with lots of pop-up designer stalls. Expect a lively atmosphere and spend a relaxed day along the Chao Phraya river. www.facebook.com/thegreatoutdoormarket

Vespa La Festa – 14 March

Are you a Vespa driver? Or have you just always harboured the secret desire to own one, like the rest of us? Either way, head on over to this Vespa-themed and organised Italian festival from 3.30pm on 14 March at Nang Loeng race course, celebrating 68 years of the vintage motorbike. Expect music, shows, Italian food and a flea market – it’s free to enter on your Vespa, or 200 baht otherwise. www.facebook.com/vespathailand

National & International Book Fair – 27 March-06 April

Bookworms will be in their element at the 43rd National Book Fair and 13th Bangkok International Book Fair, which run in tandem from 27 March to 06 April at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre (take the MRT to the station of the same name). Local and international booksellers and publishers come together and show off a vast array of books across a variety of genres, with plenty of bargain buys that attract huge crowds. Doors open at 10am each day; free entry.

A Marathon with a Difference – 28 March

Fancy something different from 10ks, fun runs and the like? The zombie-themed Run For Your Lives marathon infects Bangkok on 28 March, from 8am at Wonder World Fun Park. ‘Survivors’ have to not only run but also pass an obstacle course along the way, including such delights as a blood pit, tyre graveyard and roaming zombies. Music performances and a food and drink market follow the run itself; register for 1,500 baht at www.thaiticketmajor.com.

Swing Dancing – 08 March

Okay, so this isn’t actually in Bangkok – but it’s not far away, and it’s something a little bit different. Phra Prathom Chedi, Thailand’s largest golden pagoda, is in Nakhon Pathom province, bordering the capital, and shouldn’t take you more than an hour to reach. On 8 March from 7pm, the atmosphere of the temple will be dramatically transformed with a vintage-themed swing dance class followed by a party with a Swedish swing band. We reckon it’ll be quite the sight to behold. Free admission. www.bit.ly/chediswinging
